TURNABOUT REMINISCENCE Day - Bonus Feature

~ "Sweetness of Swiss Rolls" Download here!

On this day in Gyakuten Kenji history, Prosecutor Byrne Faraday and defendant Mack Rell were murdered in the courthouse during a recess.  Miles Edgeworth, Faraday's replacement, sets out to find his predecessor's killer amidst an odd cast of characters.  Thus, here at 3DF, we celebrate the actual date when that was due to happen, September 10th, 2011.

TURNABOUT REMINISCENCE: A Miles Edgeworth Story was our debut piece a year ago and I consider it near and dear to my heart.  I shed a "writer's depression" tear last week when it was finally concluded with Act 4.  It's had so many up's and down's, and yet it pulled through beautifully, introducing me to some of the greatest people I've ever had the honor of meeting.  See the Act 4 post for specific words of thanks.

Now, in honor of today, I have something very special that I've been keeping until after TR's final release.  Back when I started adapting the case for a script, I was having trouble coming up with an ending.  At the time, I wasn't sure if we were going to continue either Gyakuten Kenji or Saiban work, and the original case ending was made to set up for the game's final case.  I did eventually wind up writing the ending you hear in the finished product where Miles Edgeworth catches you up to his own present day.  But that was not the original choice.

In my online travels, I had found a great GK fan-fiction, "The Sweetness of Swiss Rolls," by fan-fiction.net writer 'Umi no Kanshisha.'  I fell in love with it immediately, and wrote to her requesting if we could use it as the ending for TR.  Sadly, she gave me the affirmative many months later after I had written the ending that made the cut and some VAs had already recorded lines for.  But I loved it so much that we agreed it could be a bonus feature with her approval and full credit.  And that's what you are receiving today.

This was also done before True Blue was called in to understudy Miles Edgeworth for Act 2 due to technical problems.  I wanted to give him some time in the spotlight as his Edgeworth is very well done, and thus he and I recorded the roles as Edgey and Franziska for the bonus feature.

A summary in the writer's own words: "After the brutal events of the 2nd KG-8 Incident, Miles and Franziska decide to calm down the best way they know how: indulging in Swiss rolls, snark, and a bit of bonding for good measure."

Please go into this having either 1) played the case or 2) listened to TR, as it contains spoilers for GK1-4, hence my having to wait til after Act 4 to release it.  This was also done very early on when I was first learning how to mix something not previously "set" with sound and music.  I was considering fixing it up, but I like the simplicity and charm it has as an "early" piece.  Gives it a real bonus feature feel.  I still want to go back and work on it someday.  Maybe for the "anniversary" next year :D

Until then, as always, we all own nothing nor do we make any mula for this at all.  All for fun.  Thank you again to the great cast of TR, to the writer of "Swiss Rolls" Umi no Kanshisha, and to True Blue for helping me out back-when with this little surprise.  Ladies and gentlemen, HAPPY TURNABOUT REMINISCENCE DAY!  Now enjoy this and then go listen to the case and/or play it through if you have the game! :D

PREMIERE! - TURNABOUT REMINISCENCE: Act 4 (The Conclusion)

Photobucket

This project has been in production for over a year now.  It is with elation (and some concluding sadness) that I present the final presentation of TURNABOUT REMINISCENCE - A Miles Edgeworth Story.  It has been through this production that I have not only grown as a director, mixing editor, and voice actress, but also met some of the most amazing people I have ever come to know.  I'd like to take a moment to thank the many folks who - without their assistance - this would've never been possible:

Pam and P.J. - My folks from the days of Chronicles.  I'm very lucky that you guys stuck by my side.  Your continued support and talent is so much more appreciated than you know.

True Blue - Papa! XD  You're still my favorite "old man," not to mention coming to the rescue as Miles Edgeworth back during Act 2!  I owe you one!  Thank you for everything :)

Jason - Oh, bossman...the Depp to my Burton. :)    You've been with me since the beginning, before 3DF even had a name!  Gumshoe was a cursed character before you stepped up to the plate.  Thank you, so much, for saying yes.  Your talent and friendship, there are no words.  I thank you, sir, and bow to you. ::does so::

Rina - I think I still remember the first day I received your audition, the beginning of a beautiful friendship.  You've earned your way to becoming a veteran, playing everyone from Kay to Maya, and all in-between and to come.  I couldn't ask for a better friend and voice actress.  <3 "Auntie Franny" ;)

James - ...Edgeworth.  My brilliant, amazing, official-head-canon Miles Edgeworth. :)  I can't play the game any longer without thinking of your voice.  Like I said previously to Rina, I still remember the Caps Lock email you sent when I shared that I was stepping into the Gyakuten Kenji pool.  It feels like yesterday that we recorded your "callback" of the JFA Airport scene.  In the past year, you've totally been my sanity and best friend throughout the entire process.  Love ya, Lil' Brother!

And of course, cliche as it is, I know why artists do it: my family.  The 3 D's in the group's name to attest to their awesomeness.  Dad and David, who have both joined the "L.A. Forensics and Courthouse Team." via TR.  Mom, the best Narrator ever: from playing the games with me to recording after long days of work for both of us.  Love you all, always will.

(...yeah, I'm a writer; I never do anything short and sweet. ;))

ANNOUNCEMENT - "Butler" Mini-Project

Young Grell & William, A-1 Pictures
In the spirit of new Black Butler announcements - (FUNimation has just announced Season 2's English release, planned for 2012) - I'm joining in the fun.

Things are constantly going on behind the scenes at 3DF.  You never know what we may have up our sleeves.  There's been talk of a mini-project on the Facebook page, our first Black Butler themed mini-project.  If you need something to hold you over until the English release of the BB-S2 OVA "The Story of Will the Reaper", you're in luck!  Some of my fine VAs and I are hard at work to get you our fan-audio adaptation.

Currently only available in Japanese, The Story of Will the Reaper is a Season 2 bonus episode.  All Grim Reapers are required to pass their final exam before they receive their Glasses and become certified.  Their final marks are determined after they are paired up and sent out to reap their very first soul.  William T. Spears and Grell Sutcliff were no exceptions.  But did you know that this polar opposite pair...was teamed up for their final exam?  Being so different, it was no easy task.

Curt Rose continues voicing Grell for 3DF, and veteran Dylan Spencer takes the reins as William.  More release information to follow!  Stay tuned!

Full Cast Announced for 3DF's new BLACK BUTLER

A-1 Pictures, BLACK BUTLER introduction

The recently announced BLACK BUTLER: The Tale of Jack the Ripper is moving along nicely day-by-day.  There's still much to be done, but in the meantime, casting has been finalized.  Here's some of the voices to look forward to!

Once again, Jason Marnocha and Rina Adachi return to the roles of Sebastian Michaelis and Ciel Phantomhive.

New voices for this production include 3DF Creator/Director Faith Kelter as Madam Red, Ciel's unsuspected aunt, and 3DF veteran James Hall as William T. Spears, an administrator at the Grim Reaper Staffing Association.  Both are regulars from our Ace Attorney projects as Franziska von Karma and Miles Edgeworth.  Black Butler fan-favorite Grim Reaper, Grell Sutcliff, will be played by Curt Rose.  Curt is best known as the fan-approved voice of Prosecutor Klavier Gavin in Whip vs. Guitar and the upcoming APOLLO JUSTICE: Turnabout Serenade.  Jared J. Lee (Detective Gumshoe in PHOENIX WRIGHT: Turnabout Goodbyes) will make an appearance as the mischievous Undertaker.  Rounding out the amazing cast are our extraordinary veterans Dylan Spencer, Pam Larson, and Steven C. Phillips.

Release date is still to be announced, but with progress moving as swiftly as it is, expect an announcement very soon!

3DF continues with "BUTLER"

Found at Konachan.com; Sebastian Michaelis (right) along with newcomer to 3DF, Grell Sutcliff.

Following some wonderful reception of our first Black Butler production, I'm pleased to announce that 3DF will continue with another story following Lord Ciel Phantomhive and the ever faithful Sebastian Michaelis, his demon butler.

Based on Season 1, Episodes 5 & 6, the combined story will be entitled for 3DF as BLACK BUTLER: The Tale of Jack the Ripper, and introduces appearances by Butler characters Madam Red, Grell Sutcliff, William T. Spears, and the Undertaker.  Official casting of the roles shall be announced at a later time.  However, I'm happy to say that veterans Jason Marnocha and Rina Adachi will currently be reprising their roles as Sebastian and Ciel.

In this new story, a serial murderer has been rampaging through London.  His identity is unknown, but all have dubbed him, "Jack the Ripper."  Black Butler brilliantly adapted it for the manga and anime, giving its own take on the unidentified historical killer in a story that will bring you fits of laughter and many sad tears.

More information to follow; please stay tuned!

3DF Updates!

Hello there, 3DF fans!  This is your director/creator, Faith A.K. here with an update on what's going on behind the scenes at 3DF Productions:

Turnabout Reminiscence is slowly winding down to its conclusion.  I can't believe it's been almost a year since this audio began, and it makes me tear a bit to watch our debut piece come to a close.  I met most of my veteran VAs through this production, and it shall always be near and dear to my heart.  Act 4 is coming soon!

Shangri-La is going through some cast changes, but my special "soft-spoken child" is also chugging along.  More news on that as it comes in.

Our recently announced Black Butler production is very close to completion!  Now officially titled Black Butler: His Butler, Able after the episode, that will be coming your way hopefully in the next week or so.  Get ready for "one hell of an" audio-drama!  (And if you haven't joined our Facebook fan page yet, go do it!  There's currently a preview going on for members there!)

And now, some announcements for two brand new productions in the works, continuing in our tradition of the Ace Attorney series!

Following PW: Turnabout Goodbyes, we will be debuting a new story based on the final case of Gyakuten  Saiban 2/PW: Justice for All, Farewell, my Turnabout.  I've already been collecting lines for it for some time now, so we'll be keeping that moving steadily along in the future.

But for those fans of the Apollo Justice arc, I'm happy to say your time has come!  Klavier Gavin and Ema Skye debuted in Whip vs. Guitar and now they're back, along with Apollo Justice himself, in Apollo Justice: Turnabout Serenade, based on the third case from Gyakuten Saiban 4.

So as you can see, there's a LOT going on, and LOTS of reasons to stick around!

TRAILERS & SNEAK PEEKS #3 - 3DF's BLACK BUTLER

It's official!  After some quick planning and initial casting, 3DF is proud to announce our newest audio production of Black Butler ("Kuroshitsuji" in Japan).  Originally a manga by Yana Toboso, the anime is produced by A-1 Productions and featured the voices of J. Michael Tatum as Sebastian Michaelis and Brina Palencia as Ciel Phantomhive.

3DF is currently getting ready to present an audio presentation of the first episode.  If all goes well, I'd like to continue.  Veterans Jason Marnocha and Rina Adachi take on the leading roles; more casting information to follow soon.

ATTENTION: Please be aware that Black Butler contains adult situations and some mild language, and may not be suitable for all listeners.  Discretion is highly advised.

And of course, you know it, but I'm a broken record.  We never do this for profit and make absolutely no money from our projects.  All in good fun and adoration, folks!  Can't wait to get started.

"Like Father, Like Son" - Happy Father's Day from 3DF!

Image belongs to Capcom; from the finale of Gyakuten Kenji 2

Happy Father's Day, everyone!

Over at our Facebook page - link to the right - there's been talk about a "Secret Special" project that was due to premiere this weekend.  Hints were out in plain sight too, via the above photo as my profile picture, and bearing in mind that today was a special one.

After finishing Case GK2-3 (The Inherited Turnabout), I was inspired to write my very first fan-fiction for the Gyakuten Saiban/Kenji fandom.  Entitled Like Father, Like Son, it explores two different men, bound together by a strong father and son love that not even death can undo.  Defense Attorney Gregory Edgeworth is seen as a first time father, while years later, his son Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth visits his father's grave to finally put to rest a case that Gregory had lost...and simply to have a much needed conversation.

On very short notice, I was able to put together a cast of my finest, and turn it into an audio drama presentation.  I'm very proud of how we did, and hope you enjoy it.

More specifically, I would like to officially dedicate this to my own father, Dave Kelter, who is very much like the great Gregory Edgeworth...except he's still alive. :)  Dad, this one's for you.  Thank you for everything. <3
